Despite the long queues and wait-times, customers flock to the cosy outlets for a whiff of the handmade ice creams (and delicious waffles).<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>To understand the success behind the caf\u00e9&#8217;s operations, we reached out to<b> <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Khoh Wan Chin, co-founder<\/span><\/b> of <b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream &amp; Coffee and Sunday Folks.<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9482\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9482\" style=\"width: 2880px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9482 size-full\" title=\"Sunday Folks\" src=\"https:\/\/skale.today\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/creamier-2011-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2880\" height=\"1895\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9482\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Creamier is the go-to destination for freshly churned ice creams in Toa Payoh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong><br \/>\nHow It All Began<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Creamier was first founded in 2011 by Khoh Wan Chin, Victor Lim and Audrey Wang. The enterprise sought to fulfil their vision and passion in the business.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Wan Chin begun her entrepreneurial journey by starting a design studio business. In 2001, she and Victor started <b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Trine Design Associates.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cThe 1997 and early 2000\u2019s economic crisis opened my eyes to the instability of employment\u201d<\/i>, Wan Chin states. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><i>\u201cWith youth and optimism, I started the design studio partnership with Victor when I was 24 years old, and I have never stopped running the business since\u201d.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The beginning of Creamier was a <em>fated <\/em>intention \u2013 being in the right place at the right time. Wan Chin mentions that for her and her partners, <b>they stumbled upon an empty shop which seemed like a perfect location for an ice cream caf\u00e9.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, it was acquaintance and now-partner, Audrey, whom Wan Chin credits as the baking extraordinaire. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b>It had been Audrey\u2019s childhood dream to have an ice cream shop,<\/b><\/span> leaving her keen to the idea when posed by Wan Chin.<\/p>\n<p>For Wan Chin, however, it was a call to be answered. She shares that<i> \u201cthere was a desire to head off on another adventure, which, in a way, was still related to design.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In 2011 \u2013 in a tiny corner \u2013 in a quaint little neighbourhood \u2013 in Toa Payoh Lorong 1 \u2013 \u00a0Cremier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee was born.<\/p>\n<p>3 years later, the Sunday Folks would be named as the younger sibling to Creamier, <b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">where the emphasis on freshly churned ice creams would take center-stage.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9483\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9483\" style=\"width: 2379px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9483 size-full\" title=\"Sunday Folks\" src=\"https:\/\/skale.today\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Imajin_SundayFolks_180328-21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2379\" height=\"1587\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9483\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunday Folks at Chip Bee Gardens, Singapore<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>The Concept [restrict]<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><i>\u201cAn ice cream business is a happy business!\u201d.<\/i> Wan Chin is delighted in sharing that sentiment with us. At the very core,<b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"> Creamier and Sunday Folks aim to provide a friendly neighbourhood space that people can enjoy.<\/span> <\/b>That vision is matched equally by the quality of their ice creams. A picturesque definition sees the concept decorated with ornaments of sweet memories and simple pleasures.<\/p>\n<p>No preservatives, no additives, no cheap tricks. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b>Sunday Folk\u2019s freshly churned ice creams are held to a high standard by both consumers and creators<\/b><\/span>. Despite being an uphill task to\u00a0 make,<b><span style=\"color: #000000\"> the freshly churned ice creams are what sets them apart from other businesses in the caf\u00e9 scene.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<h4><i>\u201cWhen we started Sunday Folks, we wanted to introduce a completely new type of ice cream to the market\u2013 freshly churned ice creams \u2013 which basically means ice creams that are churned on the spot upon order. The look may be like a low-cost soft serve, or soft ice cream like McDonald\u2019s, but the product quality itself is completely different.\u201d<\/i><\/h4>\n<p>A major highlight for the business was when <b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Creamier was featured in <a style=\"color: #ff0000\" href=\"https:\/\/eu.louisvuitton.com\/eng-e1\/products\/singapore-city-guide-english-version-015230\">Louis Vuitton\u2019s Singapore City Guide<\/a>.<\/span> <\/b>The inclusion of their small business was an honour and a wonderful achievement for their hard work.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9487\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9487\" style=\"width: 4895px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9487 size-full\" title=\"Sunday Folks\" src=\"https:\/\/skale.today\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Creamier_LV_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4895\" height=\"2755\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9487\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Louis Vuitton&#8217;s City Guide collection has been offering a unique take on the world since 1998. Creamier was selected to be featured in the exclusive guide .<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over the past 7 years, both Creamier and Sunday Folks have grown to become <b>popular hangout spots for Singaporeans<\/b> looking to fulfil their <em>sweet-tooth <\/em>cravings.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Facing The Music<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While the vision of Creamier and Sunday Folks has persisted as an <em>easy<\/em>&#8211;<em>going\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>one, it hasn\u2019t always been smooth sailing for Wan Chin. She claims that venturing into the F&amp;B industry was a challenge for her. It was a jump from her design business into a completely new industry, so there were gaps in her knowledge regarding the shift.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">She admits that for her, it was a very risky decision to move into the F&amp;B business.<\/span> <\/b>However, with an open mind, progress and success became attainable goals.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9495\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9495\" style=\"width: 564px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9495 size-full\" title=\"Sunday Folks\" src=\"https:\/\/skale.today\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2e7e71ca000f0dd40927847f45299fb9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"564\" height=\"845\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9495\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">All desserts are made from scratch and handcrafted to perfection (Sunday Folks @ Pinterest)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><i>\u201cKeeping an open mind, reading and doing as much as possible, finding mentors to learn from \u2013 these were what helped in overcoming these obstacles.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Managing internal and external factors are still a crucial aspect of her managerial style. Being a hard driving boss, she highlights how decisions aren\u2019t always easy, but always have implications.<\/p>\n<p>Internally, managing employees is a challenge in its\u2019 own. As a boss, she is required to provide opportunities for her staff to grow in their career. <b>This involves grooming and helping them to achieve their best potential.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Externally, she is required to meet standards set by their customers. Running an F&amp;B business with a small consumer market is the reality for many small business owners like Wan Chin.<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><i> \u201cThe niche is getting crowded. She states that with her current routine, she only averages about 5 hours of sleep a night. However,<b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"> she expresses gratitude for her family<\/span> \u2013 their unwavering support has been a major encouragement to running her business successfully.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Today, <b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Creamier has 3 outlets and Sunday Folks has 1 outlet, all in Singapore.<\/span><\/b> Their success persists as an inspiration for other small businesses in the F&amp;B industry. The quality of their freshly churned ice creams has been a focus for the business, and the reviews show nothing less than that.<\/p>\n<p>Looking forward, Wan Chin is optimistic towards the growth of her businesses. Although she does wish to \u201cgo off on another adventure\u201d eventually, <b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">she expresses hopes for expanding her current businesses to an international market.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>With a final word of advice, Wan Chin shares,<\/p>\n<h3><i> \u201cthere will be moments of anguish and despair that drive you to have such thoughts (giving up).
